 Minister of Engineering Services Rajitha Senarathne said opportunistic politics have been completely eliminated with the results of the presidential election. The UNP and JVP are without any forward vision regarding their political strategies.
The Minister pointed out that Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe has granted the opportunity to Mr. Sarath Fonseka to contest the presidential election, knowing fully well that he would not be able to win the election. Both Mr. Sarath Fonseka and the JVP are today facing a severe crisis as a result of the decision taken by the UNP, regarding contesting the parliamentary election.
The expectation of Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe was to avoid certain defeat, he would have had to face, if he had contested the presidential election. Today, the JVP is compelled to go behind the UNP.
However, Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe is disregarding the JVP and as a result the party has fallen into an extremely desperate situation. The slogans presented by the UNP and JVP during the presidential election campaign were not close to the heart of the general public, he said
