Archie Battersbee, 12, died on Saturday after being cut off from life support equipment. Archie has been unconscious since April 7. “Such a beautiful little boy and he fought to the end,” said the boy’s mother, Holly Dance.
On Wednesday evening, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg rejected a request by the parents of 12-year-old Archie Batterspie to postpone the boy’s disconnection from life support equipment. Previously, such a decision was taken by the British courts, and the decision of the tribunal finalizes the court.
The boy’s mother said that the boy died around 12:15 pm on Saturday. “He took the medication at 10 a.m. and was stable for another two hours until the doctors removed the device,” said Ella Rose Carter, Archie’s older brother’s fiancee, speaking for the family.
“We hope no family has to go through what we went through. It’s barbaric,” she added.
Judges recommended to doctors
The judges, citing research conducted that showed irreversible damage to the brain stem, concluded that it was in the boy’s best interest to end keeping him alive.

Archie has been unconscious since April 7. That day his mother found him at home. The woman suspects the boy is participating in a social media challenge to cut off as much blood supply to the brain as possible.
