Halo Master Chief Collection and 343 new videos of Halo RTS gadgets

A collaboration between 343 Industries and Halo modders, Digsite is working on re-introducing features from the first version of Halo, which was originally designed as an RTS game in 1999, before being retooled as a throwback.

In a new trailer for the Halo modding community showcasing, some of these features can now be seen in action, including the original tank version, an alternate design for a covenant dropship ship, a spartan mini-gun, and an initial, chunky style for an assault rifle. There are also different versions of Spartan armor, and a slightly altered design for both the classic assault rifle and Elite power armor, providing an in-depth look at what Halo could be.

According to Digsite’s original post, the goal is to “bring as much beta content to the community as possible, using the editing suites for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.” Work is also underway to restore the “Earth City” level that was used in the clip. The original 2003 E3 teaser for Halo 2. The ultimate goal is to make this level, which has been reworked in the release game into the opening new Mombasa sections, completely playable.

While everything here is still in progress, and we don’t have an official word on a possible release date for Halo’s truncated content, this is a great glimpse into how the iconic FPS series has evolved over the years leading up to its final release, as well as a great effort to preserve gaming history.
