According to Valve, players hoping to access a limited Counter-Strike 2 test by idle on CS:GO servers are wasting their time.

Announcing the Counter-Strike sequel last week, Valve unleashed a surprise limited beta test for select players to join.

The studio revealed shortly thereafter that the Counter-Strike 2 beta selections were based on a combination of factors, some of which included a user’s account status on Steam and recent playtime on Valve’s official servers.

Given the constant hype surrounding the testing phase, it should come as no surprise that uninvited players would try to cheat the system.

Valve shares a PSA on CS:GO idle for a Counter-Strike 2 beta test

One of the ways people have tried to get into the beta is by idling on Valve’s CS:GO matchmaking servers. The general idea is to provide enough game time to trick Valve into letting them join the limited Counter-Strike 2 test.

However, the studio itself said such a tactic would be nothing more than a waste of time. The critical playing time for the running beta test was calculated ahead of its launch on Wednesday, March 22nd.

This news will likely disappoint those who have been trying to play with the system over the past several days, especially since it’s unclear if and when Valve will host another test session.

At least the wait for the full game won’t last much longer. The Counter-Strike free trial is expected to launch on an unspecified date this summer.

With the summer months quickly approaching, developers Valve are committed to sharing more details in the not too distant future.
