Major League Baseball returned Thursday with all 30 teams playing on Opening Day of 2023. The 15-game schedule kicked off shortly after 1 p.m. ET with the Yankees and Aaron Judge hosting the Giants as one of the first games on the slate. Later in the afternoon, Rangers’ Jacob DeGrom will make his debut in front of home fans as Texas hosts the NFL’s reigning champion Phillies and their new shortstop, Trea Turner. Shuhei Ohtani will be on the mound and in the Angels’ lineup Thursday night in Oakland.
The best game of the day on paper was in Miami, where 2022 NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara will lead the Marlins against Mets and three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. Meanwhile, the Astros would begin their World Series title defense at home against the White Sox.
