The Phoenix Suns are divorcing Chris Paul after 3 seasons

Chris Paul’s time in Phoenix is now over.

Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes reported Wednesday that the Suns will waive Paul. The move would officially make Paul a free agent for this offseason and end his three-year stint with the Suns.

Paul, 38, averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 assists and 4.3 rebounds last season with the Sun. He helped them to the Western Conference Semifinals this season, but they fell in that round to the Denver Nuggets. Since then, the Suns have fired coach Monty Williams and replaced him with former Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel.

Paul had two years left on his $120 million four-year deal.

The 12-time All-Star and previous year’s rookie is sure to be a high-profile free agent this summer even as he enters the final stretch of his playing career. While he is sure he will eventually be a Hall of Famer, Paul has yet to win an NBA title. The Suns reached the NBA Finals in their first season there, but fell to the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to Haynes, Paul plans to play “several more years” in the league before retiring.

It’s not clear who will move to the veteran base in the coming months, though there are sure to be plenty of teams interested.
