36 people have died after being poisoned by Mister Cydr, a fake wine in Russia. Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko was quoted by Russian media on Saturday as saying that children were among the victims.
Minister Mikhail Murasko said that the number of people who died due to poison gas has increased to 36. Among them is a child. A total of 106 people including 5 children have been poisoned. 19 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Liquor that “pretends” to be cider
The first reports of poisoning appeared in early June. The reason was Mr. Cider, a low-alcohol drink that “pretended” to be cider, but was actually made not by fermentation, but by adding fake spirits.
The victims of the poisoning were residents of several Russian regions, including Ulyanovsk, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Byenchen and Kurgan regions, as well as Chuvashia and Udmurtia.
Investigation revealed that the illegal liquor was made from liquor stolen from the police warehouse. Producer Anar Kusenov was arrested. Also arrested was the policeman who helped in the theft of liquor.
Methyl alcohol and ethyl butyrate – a pineapple flavoring agent used to make aromatic oils – were detected in the drink.
