Nothing Phone (2) was confirmed to launch on July 11th, and ahead of that launch, Carl Pei tweeted today The gates opened for camera samples, so we can show you what we have so far.
With the original Nothing Phone (1), one of the device’s weak points was the camera. The device has a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, with a 16MP front camera. The hardware was good, but the processing seemed to hold the device back compared to competing devices.
Prior to our full review, nothing provided permission to share the still camera samples we got from Nothing Phone (2) yet. The photos, taken by Max Weinbach and I, are from the new Nothing Phone (2) camera. We can’t share any specifics or software details just yet, but the new setup is said to be similar to the phone (1) is the rumor mill, and still only has two lenses, as we’ve seen in previous leaks.
But what matters in the end are the results.
The Max’s samples so far show a camera with much better handling, a contrasting look to many shots, and vibrant colors. Details are also sharp, and the selfie cameras aren’t terrible either. I’m also very pleased with the way it handled the action, and it passed the “black dog test” fairly well. Focusing is still fairly easy, but it’s worth noting that this is all still in early software.
But we’ll let you make your own judgment.
None Phone 2 launches July 11th. Stay tuned for our full review in the coming weeks.
