After the VAR reviewed that Japanese midfielder Fuuka Nagano had made contact with the ball, Sweden were rewarded with a penalty, which was passed by Philippa Engeldahl.

Johanna Kanreide hit a fine shot from the right, but Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita sent it elsewhere.

Sweden scored in the latter part of the first half, conceding seven shots (three on goal). Meanwhile, Japan did not score a single shot in the half, but their defense was the catalyst to keep the lead at one point.
