For those who don’t remember the Delta Force series of games – which was a limited series – you don’t miss much. In 1998, the first game was released on PC, and it featured a Milsim frontier title based on the military unit of the same name. In 2009, the last game in the short-lived series was released – but now, a full reboot has been revealed, and it looks like it’s coming for Battlefield’s somewhat broken crown.
In a short thirty-second clip, we are treated to a glimpse of the all-new Delta Force game developed by Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group. If you’re not familiar, TiMi is a Chinese studio responsible for the likes of COD Mobile, Pokémon Unite, and Arena of Valor.
Delta Force is the studio’s latest project, and on the surface, it looks like it’s trying to break out of Battlefield Battlefield.
The return of Delta Force after 14 years
There’s a full reveal scheduled during Gamescom’s opening night show, but for now, we’ll have to choose to view the thirty-second trailer that recently uploaded online:
It seems a little confusing at first glance, but let’s lay out what we already know:
- There is a single-player campaign that revolves around the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, the military operation in Somalia that spawned the 2001 movie, Black Hawk Down. This particular operation boasted extensive involvement from Delta Force operators.
- There’s a massive multiplayer offering included, featuring “large-scale PvP” battles that will fuse land, sea, and air battles across vast, open maps. battlefield?
Oddly enough, the trailer reveals elements that may not necessarily be considered “accurate” and which seem designed to enhance the fantasy nature of the large-scale multiplayer environment. For example, “arrow blades” were fired from crossbows definitely You were nothing during the Battle of Mogadishu.
We also see a soldier “getting stronger” through the use of some sort of wrist-mounted device – again, not something we saw used during the early 1990s by the United States Army. There are weapons, vehicles, and mounts that don’t tie into this timeline, so we can assume Delta Force will traverse several “Eras” – much like the Portal mode in Battlefield 2042.
On that note, there are footage in the 30-second trailer that could have been pulled directly from the Battlefield 2042 demo, and there are sounds present in the video – like the Desert Eagle firing – that were pulled straight from Call of Duty.
Battlefield is in the trenches right now, suffering under the weight of numerous failures and an ever-dwindling player base. Will Delta Force step in and take the large-scale combat crown?
It’s an odd combination — we’ll find out more when the full reveal happens on August 22nd.
