Apple may sell the optional iPhone 15 Pro USB-C Thunderbolt Cable

Apple may offer a USB-C data transfer accessory cable for iPhone 15 Pro models capable of Thunderbolt or USB4 speeds of up to 40Gbps. This is the last claim he made Kusutamiwho posted details of the cable on Twitter (now X).

According to the leak, the cable is 0.8 meters long, which is shorter than the length of the Apple cable Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable (1.8 Meter)It is said to support charging up to 150W. Allegedly, Apple will sell the cable separately.

With the expected shift to USB-C across all iPhone 15 models, there’s been a lot of speculation about what port standard Apple will use in its premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max devices to further differentiate it from the less expensive iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro models will “at least” support USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. However, the leaked USB4 cable relies on the Thunderbolt 4 protocol, allowing it to deliver equivalent speeds of 40Gbps, or double the standard Previous USB 3.2 Gen 2.

As for the 150W charging claim (not 120W – a correction made by Kosutami in Subsequent tweet) This should make the cable able to deliver power faster than Apple’s current Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable (100W), but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the iPhone 15 Pro models will be able to charge that quickly.

Earlier this year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that ‌iPhone 15‌ models would support faster charging speeds due to the move to USB-C, while a rumor claimed that at least some iPhone 15 models could support charging speeds of up to 35Mbps. Watts. The current iPhone 14 models can charge at a maximum of around 27W, with the Pro models able to charge slightly faster.

So speculation is still rife about the capabilities of the USB-C port in the iPhone 15 lineup, and nothing is certain other than a switch from Lightning. Rumor has it that the cables supplied in the iPhone 15 boxes are limited to USB 2.0 data transfer speeds of 480MB per second, which is the same speed as Lightning.

In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to come with cables capable of USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 transfer speeds, according to Kuo’s original claim. Images from ChargerLab indicate that some iPhone 15 models will include a Thunderbolt/USB 4 chip, seemingly confirming the rumored faster data transfer speeds for the Pro models.

Every iPhone 15 will include a braided USB-C charging cable in the box that is thicker (i.e. more durable) and 50% longer than the Lightning cable that comes with current iPhone models, according to the reports. The cables are also rumored to match potential new colors for the iPhone, coming at least in black, white, yellow, blue and orange.

Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 lineup at an event that is expected to take place on September 12th.
