Tinder Select is a $499 per month plan for 1 percent of Tinder

Tinder announced a $499 per month, invite-only subscription. Select TinderFriday, Bloomberg Reports. As part of the premium plan, subscribers can message people they don’t match with, while “most popular” users will see their profiles. Tinder says it only offers the plan to less than 1 percent of its users that it considers “very active” and that apps will be opened on a periodic basis.

“We know there is a subset of highly active and engaged users who prioritize more effective and efficient ways to find connections,” said Mark van Ryswijk, chief product officer at Tinder. “So we engaged in extensive testing and feedback with this audience over the past few months to develop a completely new offering.”

If selected to apply, users will have to meet the company’s “5-point selection screen.” This means their profile must include a verified photo, a bio, five interests, at least four photos, and details about the type of relationship they are looking for. If their request is approved, members can add an exclusive identification badge to their profile. Like Twitter’s new option to hide the blue check mark, select members can also hide the badge in case they don’t want people to know they paid for the higher package.

New subscription Comes more than a year After Tinder’s parent company, Match Group, bought invitation-only dating app The League, which targets “aspiring, career-oriented singles.” This app costs users up to $1,000 per week.

Inspired by her success Tinder Select, but unlike Tinder, League uses actual human matchmaking tools — not just algorithms — that can help subscribers justify the cost. In contrast, Tinder Select offers more features in three existing plans, which start at $24.99 per month. For example, with Select, Tinder promises increased exposure, including among its “most popular” users, while profiles in Tinder Select will be hidden in someone’s “Likes” grid, even if that person doesn’t pay for a Gold Pass or Platinum. Additionally, Tinder Select subscribers can message people they haven’t matched up to twice a week. However, the company’s website adds that some recipients can opt out of receiving these messages. Plus, Platinum members can actually message people they like before they’re matched with them, for just $29.99 for one month.

Despite all that, Match Group executives have high hopes for Tinder Select. At the Citi Conference this month, Match Group President Gary Swidler spoke He said he believed Tinder Select’s offering, which could cost a user $6,000 for a year, would significantly impact revenue.

So far, the main appeal of Tinder Select seems to be its exclusivity and the chance to improve your chances with the ‘most popular’.
