Jamal Adams considered retiring after the injury he suffered last year

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams plans to play for the first time in more than a year on Monday night. He once wondered if he would ever play again.

Adams told reporters that he cried when he discovered how serious the quadriceps tendon was torn last year, and seriously considered retiring from football completely.

I thought about retiring“I thought about a lot of things,” Adams said, via ESPN. Would this be the case for me? I did not know. But I knew eventually, after I got the MRI, I told myself I would come back. “I didn’t know when or how, but I was going to find out.”

Adams is just 27 years old and was 26 when he was injured last year, but he has suffered so many injuries since being traded to the Seahawks that he has missed more games than he has played. Adams said it weighs on him mentally.

“I had all kinds of thoughts running through my mind, but at the time I tore my knee, it was definitely something I was thinking about,” Adams said. “I was thinking about everything at the moment. I was in a dark place. Not on anything suicidal, but definitely in a lot of dark times in terms of being away from the game of football, being away from people. At that time I wasn’t really talking to many From people, and I wasn’t answering my phone. So you go through real life situations in this football game.

Adams is eager to get on the field Monday night.

“I haven’t hit anyone in a long time,” he added. “I’m looking forward to it, man, I’ll tell you that. I’m not going to take the play for granted. I’m not going to take a moment or a second for granted.”
