The Seahawks will welcome a pair of players back from injured reserve when they host the Washington Commanders on Sunday, with running back Kenny McIntosh and receiver Dareke Young both activated on Saturday.
Cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly was waived to make room on the 53-man roster, which already had one spot open with Austin Faoliu waived earlier in the week and subsequently signed to the practice squad.
In addition to those moves, the Seahawks also elevated tackle Jason Peters from the practice squad for the third straight game. Peters has spent time at right tackle Stone Forsyth the past two games, playing 26 snaps against Cleveland two weeks ago, and 16 snaps last weekend in Baltimore. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Peters also worked at guard, giving the Seahawks more depth there with Anthony Bradford ruled out with a knee injury. Since this is Peters’ third practice squad elevation, he should be added to the 53-man roster to play in additional games.
McIntosh, who injured his knee in Seattle’s mock game in August, has been practicing for the past three weeks and Carroll said the rookie was ready to go, and it was just a matter of getting him on the roster. McIntosh gives the Seahawks more backfield depth with DeeJay Dallas listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, though Carroll said Dallas appears to be ready to play as well.
“Kenny is ready to go,” Carroll said Friday. “We’ll find out how it goes, we don’t know yet.”
Young, who had surgery for an abductor injury earlier this season, only returned to practice this week, but is already ready to play, and figures to play a big role on special teams right away.
“He had a pretty good week, too,” Carroll said. “…He’s been impressive. He had a very good season for us last year. We have high expectations for him to be a contributor, especially with the teams, but in other aspects as well. This week he looked like he was at full capacity.”
