The team announced that both coach Cliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Kim have agreed an extension with the team. Both men are under contract until the 2027 season.
Kingsbury was signed in 2019 and has gone 24-24-1 during his first three seasons. The 2021 season ended with Arizona’s first playoff berth since 2015, but they lost to the Rams on the road in the Wild Card Tour. The Cardinal missed an opportunity to host a playoff by going 1-4 in the final weeks of the season, including a Week 18 loss to Seattle that gave the Rams the NFC West title.
Keim has been GM since 2013 and has been with Cardinals since 1999.
“The leadership of both Steve and Cliff has been a key factor in the team’s transformation over the past three seasons,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell said in a statement. “We all look forward to continuing this progress and recognizing that these two people will be a huge part of achieving our long-term goals as an organization.”
It’s not clear what effect the extensions will have on conversations with Murray about a new deal, but holding on to the current mental confidence doesn’t indicate a desire to turn things around in Arizona. Kingsbury’s agent, Eric Burkhart, is also representing the midfielder, which could be a promising sign of how talks between the two sides are going.
