Jordan Spieth has been disqualified from the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, California.
Spieth, after shooting a 2-over 73 on Friday, was DQ'd after he caught an incorrect scorecard.
Spieth signed a 3 after making a 4 on the 245-yard fourth hole, a par 3, She said the PGA Tour. He hit his shot rough left, broke it to within four feet and then missed the putt.
The Texan opened his third PGA Tour feature event of the year with a 5-under 66 on Thursday, putting himself firmly in the mix. However, after a disappointing showing on day two, he was tied for 20th and 10th behind leader Patrick Cantlay.
Shortly after the DQ event, Spieth posted a message on social media, saying: “I take full responsibility.”
“Today I signed for an incorrect scorecard and walked out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all the procedures to make sure it was correct. Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility,” Spieth wrote. “I love this tournament and the golf course as much as any other tournament on the PGA Tour, so it hurts not to play golf on the weekend. I really appreciate the support in Los Angeles.”
Earlier in the day, tournament host Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament due to illness.
Spieth, who last won at the 2022 RBC Heritage, finished sixth at the WM Phoenix Open last week.
