On her way to the stage to accept the 2024 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Bella Baxter Bad thingsEmma Stone was seen saying, “My dress is broken!” To the cameras.
“I think it happened during 'I'm Just Kane,' I'm pretty sure,” the 35-year-old actress revealed during her acceptance speech.
The star wore her custom mermaid dress with fine jewelry, both from Louis Vuitton.
Previous Best Actress winners Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, and Michelle Yeoh gave the star her golden statuette, and Lange rushed to help Stone fix her zippered wardrobe malfunction with her mint dress.
In the press room after the show, Stone revealed more about how her dress was finally repaired.
“They stitched me back up, and when I came back, it was great,” Stone said. “I honestly think I caught it during 'I'm Just Kane.' I was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing and that number blew my mind and I was there and I was going for it and things happened.
Stone joined Barbie Karaoke session when Ryan Gosling (who she starred with in 2016) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor La la land) handed her the microphone during his dazzling performance of the Oscar-nominated tune. (Mark Ronson's track lost to his colleague Barbie The soundtrack song “What Are You Made For?” Written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.) Barbie Co-stars Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa and more Kens joined Gosling on stage for “I'm Just Ken,” while Greta Gerwig, America Ferrera and Margot Robbie also joined in the sing-a-long song.
Bad things It was the second most nominated film with 11 nods. In addition to Stone's award for Best Actress, the absurdist comedy took home three literal awards: Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. (Stone was seen backstage rushing back into the hall when the final award was announced.)
