WWE NXT’s numbers are bouncing back in a big way after spring break lows

Ratings and viewership data are in for the May 7 episode of WWE NXT.

According to WrestlenomicsThe show averaged 659,000 viewers and received a 0.19 rating among 18-49 year olds. Both are well above last Tuesday’s worst numbers in nearly a year. Total audience was up 17% week over week, while demo was up 36%.

Competition came from the usual sources this time of year, but WWE may have been helped by two lopsided matches in the NBA. NXT aired mostly against the Boston Celtics’ blowout of the Indiana Pacers, which was watched by 3.51 million and drew a 1.18 in 18-49 on TNT and TruTV. Oklahoma City’s easy win over Dallas kicked off at 9:30 PM ET and drew an audience of 3.68 million with a 1.29 demo rating on the same two channels. Those numbers come from SportsMediaWatch, which suggests they’re a far cry from what the NBA’s second-round starter and his partners did last year.

Thanks to double overtime, NXT only aired against one hockey match. The New York Rangers’ win over the Carolina Hurricanes brought in $1.93 million and a 0.63 rating for ESPN.

Whatever the competition, it’s a big boost for NXT with a show that highlights the brand’s women’s division.

Can they keep it going next Tuesday? We’ll find out. in the meantime…
