A video has gone viral showing Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni looking very unhappy shaking hands with French President Emmanuel Macron during the G7 summit in Italy.
The video from Friday shows Macron coming down the line and shaking hands with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Italy’s First Lady Laura Mattarella, before arriving in Meloni.

As Macron makes his way down the line, Melonie can be seen giving Macron a cold “death stare.” When the French leader arrived, she appeared to be smiling as the two shook hands.

This exchange came after the two leaders disagreed over the use of the word “abortion” in the G7 statement. The Meloni government sought to tone down references to abortion in the final statement issued by all G7 countries at the end of the summit.

The final statement, released on Friday, deletes the word “abortion” but notes the need to promote “reproductive health and rights.”
Macron said he regretted the decision, telling an Italian reporter on Thursday: “It is not a vision shared by all political factions.”

“I’m sorry about that, but I respect it because it was the sovereign choice of your people,” Macron said.
Meloni told reporters on Saturday that the suspected feud with Macron had been blown out of proportion.
Meloni, who in 2022 became the first female Prime Minister of Italy, carried the slogan “God, Homeland, and Family.” She prioritized encouraging women to have children to reverse Italy’s demographic crisis.

Italy legalized abortion in 1978, and Meloni promised she would not back down on the law.
