Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reached an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement Thursday afternoon. The owner-imposed lock has expired, about 99 days after its start. The end of the shutdown means baseball is back in business, and that means deals and deals with the free agent can be done again. Yes, it’s stove-top season again, and we could see another flurry of action in the coming hours with the opening of spring training camps this weekend.
Before the shutdown, seven of CBS Sports’ top 10 free agents signed with the teams. This leaves Carlos Correa, third baseman Chris Bryant, and first baseman Freddy Freeman as the top remaining names. All of those names are still on the open market, but things are starting to move on Friday night. Carlos Rodon signed with The Giants and the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw come to an agreement And Andrelton Simmons signed a One-year deal with Cubs.
