After selecting Stephon Castle with the fourth pick, the Spurs selected guard Rob Dillingham from the University of Kentucky with the eighth pick before immediately trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the rights to swap a 2030 first-round pick and protect the No. 1 spot for a 2031 first-round pick. Choice, for the sun of Sharaniya. (In other words, they used the eighth pick to pick someone who’s currently in the eighth grade! No? I’ll go out myself, even though that was J.R. Wilco’s line.)

Sources say the Timberwolves traded an unprotected 2031 first-round pick and traded a 2030 pick (top 1 protected) to the Spurs in exchange for Rob Dillingham.

There has been speculation that the Spurs may trade this pick in the absence of roster space and several future picks, and deeper drafts to come. If there’s more to this trade that hasn’t been reported yet, we’ll let you know.
