John Hunt: Crossbow murder suspect found after attack on wife and daughters BBC racing commentator

British police on Wednesday found a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of three people, the wife and two daughters of a BBC journalist, after a manhunt.

The search for Kyle Clifford, 26, began on Tuesday evening when police were called to a house in Bushey, Hertfordshire, where they found three women with serious injuries.

Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of BBC sports commentator John Hunt, and their two daughters, Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25, later died of their injuries, according to statements from police and the BBC on Wednesday.

Police said it was believed a crossbow was used in the “targeted incident”, adding that other weapons may have been used as well.

Clifford, who police warned may have been armed with a crossbow, was found in Enfield, north London, on Wednesday afternoon and is being treated for injuries, Hertfordshire Police said in a statement.

“At this point, we believe the suspect was known to the victims.”

A British Ministry of Defence source told CNN that Clifford left the British Army in 2022 after a short period of service. He joined the forces in 2019 and served in the Royal Cavalry, his former military superior told CNN.

The BBC described the women’s deaths as “deeply devastating” in a statement to staff. The corporation said it would offer Hunt “all the support we can” as part of a memo sent to BBC Radio 5 Live staff.

“The news today about John Hunt’s family is devastating,” the statement said. “Our thoughts are with John and his family at this incredibly difficult time and we will offer him all the support we can.”

British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the police were keeping her updated.

“The loss of the lives of three women in Bushey last night is truly shocking,” Cooper wrote on X Wednesday. “My thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and with the community.”

“I will continue to keep you updated. I would urge people to support Hertfordshire Police with any information about this case.”

A neighbour of the two women said she “saw them every day passing by and saying good morning”, according to PA Media.

“What happened is really sad and very shocking,” she added.
