Stardew Valley Creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Baroni has promised that future updates to his favorite farming sim will be completely free — just like the previous ones.
Stardew Valley has been in development for 12 years, with Barone serving as the brilliant solo studio behind the popular indie gem. Since the game’s release in 2016, the solo developer has released numerous updates—some small, many very big. Each update, whether small or packed with new content, has never come in the form of “DLC” or cost players a dime—and Barone assures us that it will stay that way forever.

at recent days mailThe creator promised: “I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge for DLC or updates as long as I live.” Baron says fans can take him at his word if he goes back on it — though as a Stardew fan, I doubt he will. Especially when I think of past massive patches like this year’s. Update 1.6 And how free they were. “Take this picture and shame me if I ever break this oath.”
This sentiment may also apply to future Barone games, as he didn’t specify that he meant just Stardew Valley – haunted chocolatier On the way, after all. No one can tell how many free updates Stardew will get, either. While The creator still believes he can “keep working on the game forever.” He admitted that “at some point, you have to move on.” Currently, 1.6.9 is being released for PC players – and it’s still unknown if 1.7.0 will be released.
