The most powerful passport in the world has recently been named the Singaporean passport.
This honor was given for the year 2024 by Henley Passport Indexwhich provides a “ranking of all passports in the world according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.”
Singaporean citizens can travel to 195 destinations without a visa, unlike the United States, which did not even make it into the top five, ranking eighth in the rankings, offering access to just 186 destinations.
Launched by London-based global citizenship and residency advisory firm Henley & Partners, the index receives exclusive information from the International Air Transport Association to assess “a passport’s position on the global mobility spectrum.”
Five countries shared second place: Japan, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, which all offer visa-free travel to 192 destinations, all took second place together.
In third place came seven countries: South Korea, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, which all provide access to 191 destinations.
The United Kingdom, New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland came in fourth place, with access to 190 destinations, while Australia and Portugal came in fifth place, with access to 189 destinations.
In last place came Afghanistan, whose citizens can only travel abroad to 26 countries without a visa.
