Doom 1 & 2 ‘Enhanced’ Bundle Has Appeared On Steam, With New Episode From MachineGames

Original story 8.23pm: With id Software’s annual QuakeCon conference kicking off today, a new – and as yet unannounced – Doom 1 & 2 bundle has been spotted on Steam, promising “enhanced” versions of the classic shooters with a brand new episode from MachineGames, the studio behind Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones.

There’s also a brand new campaign, Legacy of Rust, created by MachineGames and Nightdive Studios, as well as a new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 maps. In total, there are 187 mission maps and 43 Deathmatch maps in Doom 1 and 2.

Along with the improvements made in id’s previous updates to Doom 1 & 2 – which included graphical improvements and support for modern controllers – this new version features online and cross-platform deathmatches, co-op with up to 16 players, and support for community-published mods with an in-game mod browser.

It’s also possible to choose between the games’ original soundtracks and Andrew Hulshult’s IDKFA versions, with other improvements including improved performance with multi-threaded display support at up to 4K resolution, BOOM source compatibility, new accessibility options, and expanded language support.

It’s worth noting that while the Steam page for Doom 1 & 2 is Live nowid Software has yet to officially announce this remastered version of its classic shooter. It seems likely that it will be fully revealed during QuakeCon, which runs from today, August 8, to Sunday, August 11.
