Politico reported Saturday that the emails came from an anonymous account containing documents related to Donald Trump’s election campaign.
The Republican Party candidate’s staff has commented on this.
The path falls on Iran
“These documents were illegally obtained by foreign entities hostile to the United States to interfere in the 2024 elections and sow chaos throughout the American democratic process,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement sent to CNN.
A representative of the Republican campaign committee referred to a statement released by Microsoft on Friday. Iranian special services have stepped up efforts to influence the US presidential election by creating disinformation websites targeting liberal and conservative voters and attempting to hack into the computers of campaign officials. Iran has denied these reports.
“This statement comes after recent reports of an Iranian plot to kill President Trump. It happened around the same time as the attack in Pennsylvania,” a spokesman for the former US president said.
“Iranians know that Trump will end their terrorism as president following the actions taken during his 2017-2021 presidency,” opined Steven Cheung.
White House reaction
The White House has condemned all attempts at foreign interference in the US presidential election to be held in November this year.
“As we have said repeatedly, the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration strongly condemns any foreign government or entity that seeks to interfere in our election process or undermine confidence in our democratic institutions,” said US National Security Spokesman John Kirby. Council
