A Ferris wheel caught fire at a festival near Leipzig, Germany, on Saturday evening, causing multiple injuries, according to reports.
More than 20 people were injured in the fire, two of them seriously, the taxpayer-funded German broadcaster DW reported, citing police and the German Red Cross.
According to DW, most of the injuries were caused by light smoke inhalation, and four policemen were among the injured.
Four people also suffered burns, while one person was injured as a result of falling, Agence France-Presse reported.

“The injured are receiving treatment and are in a good condition considering the circumstances,” Highfield Music Festival said in a statement, according to Sky News. “We are working closely with firefighters, police, rescue services and medical services.”
Photos and videos showed flames and smoke rising from two of the Ferris wheel’s cars.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.

German rapper Ski Ago, who was performing when the fire broke out, took refuge in His Instagram account He said he was shocked and disturbed by the fire, adding that he hoped everyone affected would get better soon.

“For me, the priority was not to escalate the situation further, and fortunately that also worked,” he wrote in German. “Thank you for your calm and preventing the worst.”

Sky News reported that about 18 of the victims were taken to hospital, adding that the shows continued for about an hour after the fire broke out, with the Ferris wheel remaining closed.
