A representative for the rock band Foo Fighters says the band did not give US President Donald Trump’s campaign permission to play one of its songs at a recent campaign rally, and the band plans to donate any proceeds from the unauthorized use to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
On Friday, the Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” was played at a Trump rally in Arizona, according to video This photo was taken at the event and shared on social media.
But a band spokesman said in a statement to CNN on Sunday that the band did not give the Trump campaign the green light to use the band’s 1997 hit rock anthem.
“The Foo Fighters were not asked for permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it,” the representative said in a statement, adding that any royalties the band received “as a result of this use will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.”
Pennsylvania’s vice presidential candidate is Governor Tim Walz.
This isn’t the first time a recording artist has objected to the use of his music at a Republican presidential candidate’s rally.
Earlier this month, Celine Dion released a statement criticizing Trump’s “unauthorized” use of her song “My Heart Will Go On” from the 1997 film “Titanic” at a rally in Montana.
“This use is in no way permissible, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” a statement posted on her social media pages at the time read.
The statement added jokingly about the campaign’s music choice: “And this song really?”
Harris’s campaign said Sunday it has raised $540 million since launching her presidential bid a little over a month ago. This week, Harris and Walz will embark on a bus tour of Georgia, a key battleground state.
