The demolition of mosques in Sweden to stop Islamic propaganda was announced on Saturday by right-wing Sweden Democratic Party (SD) leader Jimmy Akesson at a party conference in Västerås, 100 km west of Stockholm.
The fight against Islamists is a new feature on the agenda of the group, which supports Sweden’s centre-right government from autumn 2022 to curb immigration, fight gangs and expand nuclear power. As polls show, support for SD continues to rise; 22 percent will vote for the party in November. Respondents.
The construction of new mosques in Sweden must be completely stopped (…). Mosques that spread anti-democratic, anti-Swedish, homophobic and anti-Semitic propaganda or misinformation about Sweden should be occupied and demolished.
– asserted Akesson in his speech after being re-elected as head of the SD, where he has been since 2005.
The SD leader authorized the police and SAPO special services to wiretap premises intended for religious activities to gather evidence.
According to the politician, minarets, domes and crescents should disappear from the landscape of Swedish cities, because they testify to the attempt of immigrants from the Middle East to dominate the Swedes.
Everyone has the right to follow any religion, but you cannot influence others. Immigrants from the Middle East want to stay at home (…) Sweden will not be a Muslim country
– he insisted.
Akesson accused the largest opposition party, the Social Democrats, including former prime minister Magdalena Anderson, of supporting Islamists. There is a political debate in Sweden about Jamal El-Haj, a member of parliament from the Labor Party-Social Democratic Party, who participated in a Palestinian conference in Malmö with Hamas-linked activists in May.
El-Haj acts as a magnet for the Social Democrats to attract voters. (…) Anderson cannot become Prime Minister again without the votes and support of the Islamists
– he said.
Burning the Koran
In recent months, Sweden has been grappling with misinformation on Arabic-language Internet forums about the possibility of burning the Quran as a symbol of free speech. Another false claim is circulating about the removal of children from Muslim families by Swedish social services.
In October, two Sweden fans were killed in a terrorist attack by a jihadist in Brussels.
In September 2022, the Sweden Democrats won 20.5%. For the first time in history they became the second force in parliament after the Social Democrats. The decision allowed a centre-right government of liberal-conservative moderates, Christian Democrats and liberals to form. The SD does not have its own ministers in the government, but it has representatives of the head of government who oversee the implementation of the general plan.
According to Akesson’s announcement, thanks to the Sweden Democrats, by the end of the parliamentary term (in 2026), Sweden will have a strict migration policy in the EU. Earlier, centre-right politicians said the aim was “conditions for migrants to be more generous than in other EU countries”.
