(CBS Detroit) A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted early Wednesday morning after passengers were served spoiled food.
A Delta spokesperson confirmed that Flight 136 was diverted to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport due to the problem.
Officials said part of the meal service provided in the main cabin of the plane had spoiled, and medical crews treated the affected passengers when they landed in New York at about 4 a.m.

There were 277 passengers on board, but Delta officials have not said how many passengers ate the spoiled food. A source familiar with the situation told CBS New York that 70 passengers became ill after eating the meal.
In addition, sources reported that black mold was present on some of the foods.
“Delta’s food safety team has engaged with suppliers to immediately isolate the product and begin a full investigation into the incident,” said Lisa Hanna, Delta’s corporate communications spokesperson. “This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay to their flights.”
All sick passengers refused further medical treatment.
The CDC was notified of this issue because Delta Flight 136 is an international flight.
The flight is now scheduled to depart from JFK at 6:30 p.m.
