The BBC reports that a search is underway for missing TV presenter Michael Moseley, 67, in Greece. The physician and medical journalist associated with the station since 1985 has appeared in numerous programs and documentary series. He is also known for popularizing intermittent fasting (what he calls the “5:2 Diet”) and the low-carb Mediterranean diet (“Fast 800 Diet”).
The presenter spent his vacation with his wife and children on the coast of Turkey and on the Greek island of Symi, located near Rhodes. The family last saw him on Wednesday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m. local time, when he left the beach of Agios Nikolaos for a hotel located in the center of the island.
The corridor should be about 2-3 km long. According to local authorities, this section takes around 1.5 hours to complete. However, Michael Moseley did not appear at the hotel after this time or throughout the night. His wife announced to the services.
A search and rescue team consisting of islanders, local police, the fire brigade and Athens police began searching for the 67-year-old. Drones have also been launched. All traces of the man were sought, and the paths he walked were checked. Unfortunately, to no avail.
The search continued the next day, without success. On Friday, June 7, sniffer dogs, a helicopter and “other sophisticated equipment” were deployed. However, the British journalist has yet to be found.
A prominent British journalist has gone missing. The search operation is still going on
The eKatimerini website writes that the site where Simi Lefteris Papakalotokas Mayer, the British presenter disappeared, is “very rocky”. He noted that Wednesday’s temperature on the island was “unbearable and it is easy to faint in such conditions”.
According to the BBC, thermometers should indicate above 35 degrees Celsius, with similarly high temperatures expected to continue in the coming days. This does not make the search teams task any easier.
Their operations are currently being concentrated in the Bedi area, where the missing person was reportedly spotted by one of the islanders. However, firefighters carrying out the search reportedly told authorities it was “impossible” the 67-year-old was still there.
It is a very small, restricted area, full of people. If something had happened to him there, we would have found him by now
– the island’s mayor, Eleftherios Papakalotokas, told the British station.
He said Mosley could have “taken a different route” or fallen into the sea. Greek police are currently investigating multiple scenarios.
