Although this tomb was discovered dozens of years ago, only today do we know the details of the deaths of the people found there. The study was carried out by biological anthropologist Eric Grubesi of the University of Toulouse Paul Sabatier in France and Bertand Lutz, a forensic pathologist at the University of Paris Cité.
The grave contained the bodies of three women. A person around 50 should die a natural death. The other two seem to have been treated very cruelly.
The victims brought their own death
What the hell happened? During the “murder ritual”, the victim lay on his stomach, legs bent at the knees behind his back, a rope was put around his neck, the other end was tied around his ankles. As the victim's hands were bound, he could not break free from the bonds, and the weight of his legs suffocated him, and death took place slowly.
“It must have been terrifying for the victims,” notes Eric Grupesi.
Due to insufficient ventilation and a decrease in the amount of blood pumped by the heart, cardiac arrest and self-suffocation occurred, which was inevitable due to the forced position of the legs – scientists tell about their discovery in the journal “Science”.
Incaprattamento – What is it?
Torture has a name – incaprattamento. In Neolithic society, this type of killing must have had overtones of ritual, as indicated by research conducted at other burial sites. The researchers found 20 cases of incapretamento at 14 archaeological sites in central and western Europe, dating from 5400-3500 BC.
According to the researchers, the lives of children and young women may have been sacrificed to gain the favor of nature and harvest, in keeping with the idea that if one dies, the crops will grow better.
