The Office for the Defense of the Constitution identifies the AfD party as a major threat to German democracy. In the latest polls of support for political parties in Germany, the AfD is in second place, pushing the currently co-ruling SPD into third place. This is controversial because the party has made no secret of its support for Russia. He also sees Germany’s borders differently.
According to Germany’s counterintelligence, more than 10,000 members of Alternative for Germany could be described as extremists. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution warns that the risk of far-right extremists using force is increasing.
– The biggest threat to democracy and security is right-wing extremism. There is a growing threat from people willing to use violence to achieve their goals, says Thomas Haltenwang, head of the German Office for the Defense of the Constitution.
German services note that the rise of far-right sentiment is fueling left-wing extremism – anti-fascists turning violent in the fight against neo-Nazis. The AfD is very emotional. Defined by the services as a “suspected case of right-wing extremism”, it is already the second largest political force in Germany.
They want to nominate a candidate for the presidency
The party feels strongly that it should field a presidential candidate in the next election. Usually, only the parties with the best chance of winning do so. Historically: basically only Christian Democrats and Social Democrats. “We would have done it even without the current poll results. The final vote will be given to the party members, after all, we are a democratic party – AfD’s co-chair Alice Weidel insists.
The AfD is opposed to being called an extremist party. He dresses up as an anti-establishment group that officially renounces violence. – We are the opposite of the word “dangerous”. We are not dividing society, we want to protect Germany – assures Björn Höcke, leader of the AfD in Thuringia.
Hawke is a man who uses slogans straight out of the Third Reich, and calls the Berlin memorial an insult to Europe’s murdered Jews. A politician is considered to be a man who uses the principles of democracy and wants to destroy it. He is openly pro-Putin at his rallies. “Russia is not an enemy to me, but a natural partner,” he says.
German services openly call the AfD a propaganda mouthpiece of the Kremlin. The party, if possible, will fulfill Putin’s biggest dream. In the AfD project document obtained by the media, there is a postulate to dissolve the European Union,
Polish thread in the background
In the German political scene, the AfD is still surrounded by the so-called sanitary garden – it is isolated and stigmatized by all groups. It is in the Bundestag, but not in the Polish Sejm. In May, a group from the AfD youth wing came to Wijska Street – at the invitation of one of the federation’s parliamentarians.
It is even more shocking that the AfD is not only an anti-immigration, anti-EU, but anti-Polish group. Two years ago, in the Bundestag, one of the AfD leaders, Alexander Gauland, praised the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and blamed Poland for the outbreak of World War II.
Two weeks ago, party co-chair Alice Weidel used the term “Central Germany” to refer to the former East Germany. According to this logic, East Germany would be Poland’s reconquered territory—implicitly undermining the Polish-German border.
