Alicia Keys raised eyebrows with a silent blog post about how she had her “eye on paragliding” — days after Hamas fighters used gliders to fly into Israel in their unprecedented attack on the Jewish state.
Keys posted a photo of herself wearing a green jacket to her Instagram account on Monday, saying: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid of anything???
She added: “Tell me your truth… I’ve been looking forward to paragliding…” with a ‘side eye’ emoji in the since-deleted message.
The singer was immediately criticized for her post amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, whose terrorists used gliders to attack an Israeli music festival, killing at least 260 people.
Some social media users also accused her of showing sympathy for the movement by wearing green, the same color as the Hamas flag.
Advocacy group “Stop Antisemitism” robbed the Grammy winner.
“Is this a sick ode to the Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israel, killed more than 1,300 people, beheaded children, raped women, and kidnapped Holocaust survivors?” He said on X.
The author, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, also criticized Keyes.
“You’re thinking about paragliding to what? To Israel and shooting and killing people?” He told Sky News. “I’m having a hard time finding the words because we’re all in shock that the world has no morals.”
Following the backlash, the singer apologized and removed the incendiary post.
“The post I shared has absolutely nothing to do with the recent devastating loss of innocent lives. My heart is broken….I pray for and advocate for peace,” Keys said in a statement on her Instagram Stories.
Its former director, American-Israeli Guy Oseary, also confirmed that she did not mean any harm.
“There is talk of an anti-Semitic post that my dear friend Alicia Keys posted on her Instagram account,” Oseary wrote. “I can assure anyone in my Jewish community who needs to hear this: This is not true.
“There was a specific word in her post that our community in this very painful time found very triggering, but it was not at all relatable in any way,” he wrote. “I spoke to Alicia and she was horrified to learn what the word meant and removed it immediately.”
“Alicia has always been a fighter for all human rights,” Oseary added. I’ve had a front row seat for over a decade seeing her positive impact in the world. Her humanitarian work reflects her compassion and heart.”
