Tucker Carlson has announced on social media that he will be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin soon. The announcement of the controversial American journalist was met with a reaction from the world media, which recalled Carlson's pro-Russian statements.
Photographs of Tucker Carlson at various locations in Moscow, released by Russian media on Monday, fueled speculation that the American may be the first Western journalist to interview Vladimir Putin after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment when asked by reporters if Carlson had visited the Russian administration building in central Moscow.
On Tuesday, Carlson posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) from the Russian capital, confirming that he would be interviewing Putin “soon.” He wants Americans to learn “as much as possible” about Russia's perspective on the nearly two-year-old war with Ukraine.

The journalist's announcement received widespread coverage in the world media. “Tucker Carlson has been declared a protégé of Putin since the beginning of the war (in Ukraine – ed.)” – writes the BBC website on Wednesday, just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Carlson said “hatred of Putin became the main goal of US foreign policy.” According to the website of the US station CBS News, “Russian state media frequently publish Carlson's excerpts (reports – editor's note) to undermine the credibility of US institutions and leaders.”
“Does Tucker Carlson travel to Moscow to support Putin in his time of need?” – George Monastriakos wonders in “Kyiv Post”. It reminds us of the recent protest by the wives of soldiers drafted into the war by the Putin regime. He also quotes CIA Director Bill Burns as saying that the invasion of Ukraine crippled the Russian economy, increased debt to China and helped America recruit spies.

After Carlson's announcement Tuesday, journalists are paying particular attention to a section of the record from Moscow that “no Western journalist has bothered to interview” in the past two years, the journalist said. Oliver Darcy responded to the report in a CNN speech, writing that the Russian president “refused” journalists. “It remains to be seen why Carlson was welcomed into the Kremlin while others were denied,” Darcy added. In turn, BBC journalist Steve Rosenberg wrote that over the past 18 months, the British public broadcaster has “submitted numerous requests” to the Kremlin for interviews. “We always got a negative response,” Rosenberg noted.
As CNN reminds us, Putin not only refuses to contact a free press, but has waged a war on the media over the past two years, jailing journalists and punishing tech companies for spreading what he called — “false” information about the invasion. Ukraine, and strengthening censorship.
Tucker Carlson – Who is he?
Tucker Carlson is a conservative journalist. In the years 2009-2023, he was associated with the American station Fox News, where he hosted the Tucker Carlson Tonight show. Because of his statements, Carlson was accused of spreading racism, sexism, and conspiracy theories. In April 2023, Fox News announced the termination of cooperation with the journalist. No reason given. However, a week earlier, Fox News agreed as part of a court settlement to pay voting machine manufacturer Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million for lies made on Carlson's show about election fraud involving DVS.
