Payments for iPhone users are finally on their way as part of Apple's $500 million settlement over the “Batterygate” throttling controversy. iPhone users who filed a claim as part of the case will receive a payment of about $92.17 per claim. This could result in nearly $1,000 in total payouts for some people.

The lawsuit accused Apple of defrauding consumers by intentionally slowing down the performance of iPhones as their batteries age. In response, Apple issued an official apology, reduced the price of battery replacements, and provided users with the option to turn off the feature. Additionally, Apple has introduced new features to iOS to help reduce the impact of battery health degradation over time.
Apple has silently introduced performance throttling as a way to prevent your iPhone from shutting down unexpectedly. This came after it was found that iPhone batteries cannot maintain peak performance levels as they age. However, Apple rolled this out as part of iOS 10.2.1 in February 2017, without properly informing customers of the change.
Payments are finally on their way
Apple agreed to pay this $500 million settlement in March 2020, but still denies any wrongdoing. Of the $500 million, $310 million goes to consumers. This equates to payouts of about $92 per claim for iPhone users.
If you do not file a claim to join the lawsuit now, it is too late to do so now. The deadline is set for October 6, 2020. If you have an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or iPhone SE, you can file a claim for each of these devices.
As spotted for the first time before MacRumors, the first payments of $92.17 from Apple are now on their way to consumers as part of the settlement. This is in line with Promised settlement timetable The first payments will go out to consumers sometime in January.
On social media, Michael Burkhart shared Screenshot showing six payments of $92.17 each. Many other iPhone users also chimed in to say they received their payments today.
