Over the past few weeks, a number of reports have surfaced on social media from iPhone users claiming that their alarms are not sounding properly. Apple has since confirmed that it is aware of this issue and says it is working on a fix.
Apple has confirmed the issue to Wall Street Journal Joanna Stern This morning. The company said it is aware of an issue that causes some iPhone alarms to not play the expected sound and is working on a fix.
On social media, some users have found that the issue is related to the Attention Aware features on the iPhone. This feature is designed so that if you are looking at your device, it will lower the volume of your alerts.
Social media users speculate that the Attention Aware feature incorrectly detects attention and lowers the volume of alarms, even when the iPhone user is asleep. Apple has not confirmed whether this is actually the cause of the problem.
To disable attention-aware features, open the Settings app, tap Face ID & Passcode, then turn off attention-aware features.
