Astro Bot, PlayStation’s undeniably beloved mascot, will feature around 80 levels across six worlds at launch, but the ASOBI team says there’s plenty more to come via future updates. Best of all, these DLCs will be added for free.
IGN I spoke to studio head Nicolas Doucet, who said that plans are already in place for post-launch support, with the aim of arriving “soon” after the console’s release on PS5 on September 6th. These additions will focus largely on adding more challenging levels to the game; Shorter tests focused on a specific gimmick or topic.
Doucet is still being quite tight-lipped about what might be coming, but IGN is offering suggestions based on his preview experience (which reflects our hands-on time with the game). Two of the challenge levels played focused on rescuing robots dressed as PlayStation characters, so it’s reasonable to assume that could mean more characters will appear in the future. At launch, there appear to be around 150 references to the character, so we’re looking forward to seeing which forgotten PlayStation treasures will resurface.
Furthermore, without spoilers, PlayStation’s biggest stars like Kratos and Atreus appear to play a bigger role than just a cameo. IGN speculates that there will likely be a God of War-themed level, opening the door for future levels themed around the character.
