Jimmy Kimmel shared on social media that his son underwent his third open-heart surgery over Memorial Day weekend.

The late-night talk show host dedicated a message to his son, his family, and everyone involved in Billy’s surgery.

“This weekend, our son Billy had his third open-heart surgery (of three, we hope),” Kimmel shared. Instagram. “We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and just as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy baby.”

“Walking through this hospital, meeting the most vulnerable parents, the children in pain, and the miracle workers doing everything they can to save them is a humbling experience,” Kimmel wrote. “We hope you never need CHLA, but if you do — know that it helps families regardless of their ability to pay, thanks in large part to the Affordable Care Act (another shout-out to the late Sen. The comedian also thanked the “loving strangers who took the time to pray for our baby and send him positive energy,” and also had some words for his family.

He added: “Thank you to my wife Molly for being stronger than is reasonable for any mother, and Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7-year-old we know.” “There are a lot of parents and children who are not lucky enough to go home after five days.”
