It looks like Chris Seal has a new enemy: Polar Park.
Sal — rehab with Triple-A Worcester after a rib fracture he sustained in spring training — struggled in his prime on Wednesday night, proceeding to shed his frustration on the field, destroying the dugout. Sale is seen violently tearing items off a wall, with a large pile of debris at his feet in a video taken by NBC 10’s Alicia Palumbo in Boston.
The sale lasted 3 and 2/3 innings on Wednesday and five hitters walked, including one with loaded bases that forced a run and cut short a picnic.
“I was just there fishing today,” Seal told the Boston Globe. “Nothing to hang your hat on, that’s for sure.”
Sala, 33, has only made 42 runs with the Red Sox since signing a five-year, $145 million contract extension in March 2019. He missed the end of the 2019 season due to elbow inflammation and underwent Tommy John’s surgery at dawn today. Campaign 2020, before suffering a right rib stress fracture during hitting practice in February.
The left-handed man has made four rehab games in the minor league and, despite his underhanded actions on Wednesday night, insists a return to the major leagues is imminent.
“I’m very ready,” Sala said. “I know today was a bit of a hiccup but nothing that can’t be settled. … I just want to be a part of it. I want to get back to doing my work and lifting my weight.”
