A little rain won’t stop Coco Gauff and LeBron James as they prepare to fly the Team USA flag at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
On Friday, July 26, the tennis champion and three-time Olympic medalist was seen heading to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, where he is scheduled to serve as a flag bearer during the Parade of Nations.
Although Paris was dealing with rainy weather all day as many celebrities prepared to attend the opening ceremony, Gauff, 20, and James, 39, came prepared to protect their custom-made red, white and blue Ralph Lauren jackets. In a video shared jointly on the Instagram accounts of Team USA and the USTA, the pair can be seen wearing clear plastic coats over their uniforms, with Gauff holding a book over her head to protect her hair and makeup look.
Gauff, 20, and James, 39, made history when they were named flag bearers earlier this summer. Gauff is the first American female tennis player to carry the flag for Team USA, and James is the first men’s basketball player to hold the position.
The Parade of Nations will also look a little different than it usually does this year. The ceremony will take place on the River Seine, and thousands of athletes from around the world are set to make their boat debut, with each nation’s team – starting with Greece, as per tradition – sailing down the Paris river.
A number of celebrities have also arrived in Paris ahead of the opening ceremony, including Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, who have both been confirmed to participate in the Games, which officially begin on Friday, July 26.

On Thursday, July 25, Dion, 56, was spotted greeting fans outside the Royal Monceau hotel in the French capital, as rumors swirled that she would be performing, and on Friday, photos emerged of Lady Gaga, 38, rehearsing with dancers (and braving the rain) on the banks of the River Seine.
Several other stars also stopped by the City of Light on Friday to hit the red carpet next to the Eiffel Tower, including Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who both served up looks inspired by their roles in evil, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend with their two eldest children, daughter Luna and son Miles, Nina Dobrev and former Olympic champion Shaun White, YouTuber Emma Chamberlain and more.
