By passing the UN resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, Todic declared, “the end of the existence of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be signed.” On Thursday – the day the UN General Assembly begins discussions on the resolution – the Republika Srpska government will hold its external meeting in Srebrenica. – A peaceful solution to Bosnia and Herzegovina will be proposed during the meeting, the RS leader explained, “regardless of whether it happens soon or not, we choose a peaceful secession.”
Emir Suljagić, director of the Srebrenica-Potochari Memorial Center, said on Wednesday that a meeting of the Republika Srpska government would be held in the city after President Dodik announced that tensions had escalated in and around Srebrenica.
He asserted that the city streets are now filled with police and special operations forces.
Tensions are rising in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The autonomous region wants a “peaceful dissolution of the state”.
The UN resolution, among others, aims to: designate July 11 as International Genocide Remembrance Day, condemn the denial of the Srebrenica genocide as a historical event and the glorification of its perpetrators. The document is strongly opposed by Serbian authorities and Serbian politicians in BiH.
Todic earlier announced that Republika Srpska’s authorities are already committed to implementing measures aimed at achieving the independence of the Serb-majority region of BiH. The politician also denied – in violation of Bosnian law – that the genocide took place near Srebrenica.
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said the resolution aimed to “abolish Republika Srpska and demand war reparations from Belgrade”.
