A supersonic military plane crashed into an apartment building in the southern Russian city of Yeisk, the building caught fire and several upper floors collapsed.

The Interfax news agency quoted emergency services as saying that five floors of the apartment building had caught fire, and the upper floors had collapsed and about 45 apartments were damaged.
It added that the fire spread over an area of more than 2,000 square meters (21,500 square feet). Yeisk, a city of about 90,000 residents, is home to a large Russian air base.
The local Krasnodar administration said on Telegram that about 600 people usually live in the building. She added, “The governor has ordered the location of each resident.”

The Su-34 is a twin-engine supersonic bomber with advanced sensors and weapons that has been a major component of the Russian Air Force. The aircraft saw widespread use during the war in Syria and fighting in Ukraine.
Monday’s incident was the 10th non-combat incident reported of a Russian warplane since Moscow sent its forces into Ukraine.
