Despicable Me 4 grosses $126 million at the box office
Despicable Me 4 is the fourth installment in the popular animated film franchise. The film has already set enviable records with its previous films and now the latest installment has grossed $126.5 million in its 5-day box office run. As Deadline reports, the film got off to a flat start with $27 million by Friday but has since gained momentum and ticket sales have skyrocketed. The Despicable Me film series first launched in 2010, followed by two main installments and two Minions spinoffs.
The huge interest in the film wasn’t just due to the opening weekend. Universal Pictures and Illuminations spent heavily on promotional campaigns, which included a variety of collaborations and methods to attract audiences of all ages.
The animated film has teamed up with the NFL and Minions and Gru sculptures in the form of inflatables, a studio tour tribute, costumed characters, food and beverages, and stage covers at CityWalk. To appeal to a younger audience, Roblox integration has been ensured along with tickets in 16 languages and an Amazon gift card program with one of five Mega Minion digital backpacks as a reward upon redemption.

Family movies dominate the box office this summer
The box office has seen a successful trend in the past few months with Inside Out 2 , which is currently in its fourth week of release and sitting on a $1.22 billion haul, as reported by the Associated Press. The trend to watch here is the success of family movies at the box office. “This is one of the most beloved franchises, quite frankly, in the history of cinema, and certainly animation,” said Universal Distribution President Jim Orr. “Chris Meledandri and Illumination have their finger on the pulse of what families and audiences around the world want to see.”
