There were a lot of great videos in the wake of the Detroit Lions' first-ever NFC North crown. There's Dan Campbell's post-game speech honoring the veterans on the team who have gone through the rough patch with this organization. Or Dan Miller's stunning interception call on Ifeatu Melifonwu to seal the game. Or a collection of locker room celebration videos from the players' Instagram page.
But the best of the best, as always, came from the official multimedia team of the Detroit Lions: One Pride Productions.
On Sunday night, they released a video titled: “Build Our Legacy Now: Detroit Lions Win First NFC North Title,” and it will likely make you cry or at least feel better.
The video begins at the Lions meeting on the first official day of the 2023 season: September 1. In the behind-the-scenes video, we see Campbell setting goals for the season. As the editors string together clips from the season — the ups, the downs, and everything in between — we eventually return to Campbell about two-thirds of the way through the video.
He asks the whole team to turn around and look at the wall. There, the frustrating history of black people is painted for all to see. No playoff wins since 1992. No division championship since 1993. No division championship since 1957.
“We're building our legacy now,” Campbell said. “We are building our legacy now. We are in a unique position with this team. We are able to do something that not many teams can do, which is build a legacy.”
One down. Two to go.
