On Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Brussels, where he will attend the EU-Western Balkans summit and the meeting of the European Council. On Friday, the head of government will meet European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen.
– I am very glad to be here again. Poland returned to Europe. This is probably the most important moment in my political career. “It’s a very special moment for me,” Tusk said.
“But the situation today is worse than when I worked here,” he noted. — You may remember that I was “obsessed” with Russia. But today I am not satisfied that I was right. My role today is to strengthen European resolve, he said.
– There are member states that need to ensure that supporting Ukraine is important for Ukraine as a whole, he added. – It is unacceptable for me to be tired of the war in Ukraine. We are talking about our future, he said.
– We will strengthen the rule of law and human rights. It is a sad reflection, but we will still have to talk about these things in some member states in 2023, he said.
– I will start with dialogues and translations. It’s hard, routine work. There will be no miracles, today we need to strengthen the belief that Ukraine can win this war, Tusk said when asked in Brussels how he would like to help Ukraine.
– Prime Minister Orbán is very pragmatic. When Tusk asked how he planned to convince the Hungarian prime minister to offer aid to Ukraine, he took it as a compliment.
– Everything is on track. One thing is certain: All European institutions are aware of the renaissance of the rule of law in Poland, Tusk said when asked about the money from the KPO. – It seems that we are in the final stage – he added.
– The Ukrainian side proposed a meeting tomorrow morning. Technical details are agreed upon. “I would be happy to meet with President Zelensky,” Tusk said, but did not specify when or where the meeting would take place.
