Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not satisfied with his new wax statue located at the Griffin Museum in Paris, France. The actor said he had his team reach out to him and ask to change a key part of the look: his skin color.
Johnson shared a clip on Instagram on Sunday of comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr., who mocked the wax statue. “This is how Paris thinks he looks,” Jefferson said, sharing a photo of the wax statue depicting the light-skinned actor. “They turned the rock into pebble.”
“It looks like The Rock has never seen the sun in his life,” Jefferson continued.
Johnson, who is Black and Samoan, also shared Jefferson’s video On his personal page on Instagram.
“For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at the Griffin Museum in Paris, France so we can work on updating my wax statue here with some important details and improvements — starting with my skin tone,” he wrote in the caption. “And next time I’m in Paris, I’ll stop by and have a drink to myself.”
The Griffin Museum, like the Madame Tussauds wax museums in New York City and London, displays wax figures of celebrities. Their characters range from Charlie Chaplin to Nelson Mandela to Leonardo DiCaprio.
Sculptor Stefan Barrett created Johnson’s wax figure using photos and videos rather than seeing the star in person. The museum said in a press release on Monday.
“Teams went to gyms hoping to find a man who would match The Rock’s extraordinary measurements,” the press release read.
“It’s true that it’s always impressive to make people this big,” Barrett said in a statement. “We were lucky enough to find someone who was physically comparable to Dwayne Johnson’s build and height. That really allowed us to do it right.”
Barrett said it was difficult to achieve the subtle smile that Johnson displayed in the photo he used to create the look.
Johnson’s eyes were redrawn three times to ensure they were warm and not too dark, while his Samoan tattoo took 10 days to create, according to the statement.
CBS News has reached out to the Grevin Museum for comment and is awaiting a response.
