The US State Department announced on Friday that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Treasury Department have decided to allocate more than $10 billion in aid to Ukraine.

“The United States continues to support Ukraine through Russia’s brutal, unprovoked war. Today, together with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Department of the Treasury, we are announcing $10 billion in assistance, including budget support, to the government of Ukraine. Additional energy assistance to support Ukrainians affected by Russian attacks,” the State Department said in a statement.

As a result of bipartisan support from Congress, the U.S. began providing an additional $9.9 billion in budget support to the government of Ukraine, the ministry said this week. The grant is provided through the World Bank’s Public Expenditure Mechanism (PEACE) to maintain administrative capacity on a reimbursement basis after verified expenditure.

“These funds are critical for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia and provides the Ukrainian government with the ability to continue to meet the critical needs of its citizens, including health, education and emergency services. Continued efforts by the United States have helped mobilize other international donors, including the European Commission, Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom. Provide necessary economic assistance to Ukraine.

In addition, the United States will allocate another 250 million dollars to help Ukraine’s energy system. These funds help ensure the operation of schools, cover the costs of electricity generators for hospitals, as well as heat homes and shelters across Ukraine.

“This assistance is in addition to the $270 million the United States has already pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security over the past year,” the State Department explained.

Earlier on Friday, the US Department of Defense announced a new $2 billion aid package to Kiev to help improve Ukraine’s air defenses.
