Fatal accident in wrong direction: 3 are killed and 3 injured when a car traveling on the wrong side of Interstate 210 collides in Fontana

Fontana, California (CABC) – Three people were killed when a vehicle traveling at high speeds in the wrong direction on Interstate 210 collided with another vehicle in the Fontana area early Saturday, officials said.

The car, a 2012 Ford, was heading east on the west side of 210 via Fontana when it hit a 2001 Lexus with two adults and three children at about 6:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The driver of the wrong-hand Ford, a 23-year-old man from Fontana, was declared dead at the scene. The Lexus driver, a 43-year-old man from Highland, was also killed, as well as a 16-year-old female passenger in the Lexus.

There were three additional passengers in the Lexus who were also seriously injured in the accident, a 5-year-old girl, a 3-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman. All the occupants of the Lexus were Highlanders, although it was not immediately known if they were family members. They were taken to local hospitals.

According to CHP dispatcher records, witnesses reported that the Ford driver was swerving in and out of lanes and driving at high speeds of up to 100 mph before crashing near the Citrus Avenue exit.

The accident is still under investigation.
