With Christmas Day on a Sunday in 2022, most week 16 matches will be played on Saturday with three featured games on December 25.
The previous week it would be the other way around. The NFL will have a three-way game on Saturday, December 17, with five games in a qualifying pool for selection.
The five games are Dolphins at Bills, Ravens at Browns, Colts at Vikings, Falcons at Saints, and Giants at Commanders.
The three selected games will be televised on the NFL Network beginning at 1 p.m. ET, 4:30 p.m. ET, 8:15 p.m. ET. The league will determine the specific matches at a later time.
The two unselected matches will be on Sunday, December 18th.
In some ways, it might pay off to have a Saturday game in Week 15 as it will give the team a full week to train in Week 16. But the short week will come early in preparation for Saturday’s first opponent.
Last year, the NFL announced on November 23 that the Patriots-Colts and Browns-Raiders playoffs had been taken away from pool to play on Saturday in the 15th week. The Raiders game has been moved to Monday due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Cleveland.
